MABC Cricket Fundraiser Raises Over £6,000 for Blood Cancer Research & Patient Support!

What. A. Day. On Sunday 29th June, the MABC community came together for a fantastic day of cricket, food, and fundraising — and thanks to the incredible efforts of volunteers, players, and supporters, we raised over £6,000 for Merseyside Against Blood Cancers.

Held at Liverpool Cricket Club, the event was a celebration of community spirit, with sunshine, laughter, and a whole lot of teamwork on display. From start to finish, it was clear that everyone was there for more than just cricket — they were there to make a difference.

A Huge Thank You

A heartfelt thank you goes out to every single person who contributed — whether by playing, donating, volunteering, or just turning up to show support.

Here are just some of the amazing people and groups who helped bring the day to life:

  • The BBQ Team – Liz, Jonny, Hayley & Ritchie, for cooking up a storm in the heat!

  • The Cake Crew – Sue x2, Kitty, Isabelle, Gail, and Chloe for the incredible spread of sweet treats (the vegan and gluten-free options were especially loved!)

  • Saira & Sham – For the delicious biryani and pakoras, a last-minute but much-loved addition.

  • Mark for another brilliant quiz and Alex for sourcing the PA system that kept us all in the loop.

  • The Umpires & Scorers – Mark, Martin, Andy, Howard, Michael, Chloe, D Sid, Roshan, Ewan, Tom C, and Tom G — thank you!

  • GWD Finance, our generous event sponsor — helping fund toys for the kids, BBQ supplies, and more.

  • All Raffle Prize Donors – With your help, the raffle alone raised £1,000.

  • Hope, all the way from Australia, for designing all the posters!

  • ️ Arvind, for the Costco snack shack run.

  • The MABC Trustees, who sold raffle tickets, supported throughout, and kept things running smoothly.

  • Everyone who helped set up and tidy up — we left no mess, just good memories!

A special mention to Josh the Aussie, who somehow made it to his bar shift after a full day, and to Jamie and Dan, who raised another £100 in a late-night scorebox race (Tom G won!).

The Driving Force Behind It All

While so many people made this day special, we owe the biggest thank you to Emily Hill, MABC trustee and lead organiser of the event. Emily’s energy, commitment, and relentless planning (plus a lot of WhatsApp messages!) made everything possible. From logistics to team coordination to keeping everyone fed — she did it all. Thank you, Emily!

In Closing

We couldn’t be prouder of what we achieved together. This fundraiser wasn’t just about raising money — it was a reminder of the power of community, and how much we can accomplish when we come together.

Thank you for being part of it.
