Applications Open for the NWCR and MABC Research Development Grants

Merseyside Against Blood Cancers (MABC) is delighted to be partnering with North West Cancer Research to launch the 2026 Research Development Grant (RDG) scheme, supporting innovative blood cancer research across Merseyside.

The scheme is open to early career researchers based at the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University and Edge Hill University, with funding available to help develop high-quality pilot projects that have the potential to lead to larger research programmes.

A total funding envelope of up to £25,000 is available. Applicants may request up to £25,000, although several awards are expected to be made, with the average grant anticipated to be around £10,000. Funding must be spent within 24 months of the award date.

The charities are looking to support outstanding research focused on one or more blood cancers, particularly projects that will benefit people across Merseyside. Applications for matched funding towards multi-user equipment, as well as travel support and short research placements that encourage collaboration and knowledge exchange, will also be considered. Please note that staff salaries will not normally be funded, although temporary post-doctoral roles may be considered.

The application deadline is 5.00pm on Friday 31 July 2026. Applications will be reviewed competitively by a joint North West Cancer Research and MABC panel, with successful applicants expected to be notified by 30 September 2026.

Please download the Research Development Grant Brief and Application Form below before submitting your application using the online submission link.

If you have any questions about the scheme, please contact [email protected].

We look forward to supporting the next generation of researchers working to improve outcomes for people affected by blood cancers across our region.
