In partnership with North West Cancer Research
Merseyside Against Blood Cancers (MABC) is proud to collaborate with North West Cancer Research (NWCR) to fund a new PhD studentship dedicated to the memory of Robina Crowe — a long-term supporter of MABC and a passionate advocate for blood cancer awareness, who sadly passed away recently.
This joint funding opportunity will support an outstanding fundamental science PhD project focused on advancing our understanding of blood cancers. With over 60 types of blood cancer affecting people across all ages, this research will help uncover vital knowledge that leads to better diagnosis, care, and treatment.
About the Funding
This studentship will provide up to £110,000 over 3½ years, supporting a project that combines scientific excellence with patient-centred impact.
We invite principal investigators based in the Merseyside region to apply — particularly those with experience supervising PhD students. Projects should involve both basic scientists and clinicians, fostering collaboration that bridges lab discovery and real-world patient benefit.
Applications are welcomed from a broad range of disciplines exploring the causes, care, and cure of blood cancers, with a focus on impact within the North West of England and North Wales. Collaborative submissions between universities and NHS partners are strongly encouraged.
All proposals will undergo rigorous peer and scientific review, with panel details to be announced once confirmed.
Applications close at 5pm on 5 January 2026.
